PBC Lukoil Akademik Sophia won the friendly tournament in Nicosia, Cyprus, after getting three wins in as many games. Bulgarian champion travelled to Cyprus right after beating Aris in Greece in EuroCup. Unfortunately, PBC Lukoil Akademik Sophia was thrown out of the competition, after losing the first game at home and will now participate in EuroChallenge.
In Nicosia, Bulgarians were dominating the tournament. They swept InterCollege Etha Engomis in the first game with 106:63, behind 18 points by ""Brandon Bowman"" (204-F-84, college: Georgetown) and 17 by Kaspars Kambala (206-C-78, college: UNLV).
Pizza Express Primetel Apollon was a bit more of a challenge for Lukoil, but still Bulgarians won 94:86. Again Bowman was on a scoring run with 20 points, Kambala added 15, and Dominic James (180-G-86, college: Marquette) 14.
In the last game on Sunday, Lukoil had a good match-up with Keravnos Strovolou, but finally won the game 81:77 and with that result won the whole tournament. Brandon Heath (193-G-84, college: San Diego St.), Bowman and Tencho Banev (209-C-80, agency: Interperformances) scored 13 each for the victory.
PBC Lukoil Akademik Sophia is now on its way back to Bulgaria, where the National Basketball League starts on Saturday.
